School and college admissions websites in Telangana: what parents look for before they enquire
The short answer
Before they enquire, parents in Telangana check a school or college website for six things: the board and affiliation, fees, distance and transport, who leads the institution, real photographs, and a clear way to ask a question, usually on WhatsApp or by phone. An admissions website that answers these on the first visit stays on the shortlist.

A parent choosing a school in Hyderabad usually starts with a list from relatives, a family WhatsApp group and a search on their phone. Within minutes, each school on that list has a website open in a tab. Most of those tabs are closed again quickly, not because the school is wrong, but because the website did not answer the question the parent came with.
This playbook sets out what parents and students in Telangana look for on a school or college website before they enquire, and how to build a site that answers it. We draw on admissions sites we have built for Chanakya School of Modern Management, AURA and Santinos Global School.
What do parents look for on a school website before they enquire?
Parents look for facts before feelings. They check the board and affiliation, the fees, how far the campus is and whether there is transport, who runs the school, what the campus really looks like, and how to ask a question. If those six answers are on the first visit, the school stays on the shortlist.
What parents check before they enquire
- Board and affiliation number, visible early
- Admissions year, process and key dates
- Fees, or a clear route to them
- Campus location and transport routes
- Leadership names and qualifications
- Real photographs of the campus and classes
- Phone, WhatsApp and office hours
- One enquiry action on every page
Notice what is not on the list: mission statements, awards described in adjectives, and stock photographs of children who do not attend the school. Those things are not harmful in themselves. They are simply not what decides an enquiry.
What should be on the first screen of an admissions website?
The first screen should name the school, the board and affiliation, the admissions year, a phone number with office hours, and one enquiry action. A parent who reads nothing else should know whether the school fits their child's board and whether admissions are open, and should be able to call or enquire in one tap.
The Santinos Global School site, a CBSE school in Meerpet that we built, does this in its opening frame. A top bar carries the admissions phone number, the admissions email and office hours. The hero shows the CBSE affiliation number, states that admissions are in progress for the coming academic year, and offers two actions: start an enquiry, or call admissions. A "Life at Santinos" carousel, numbered one of eight, shows the actual campus.
Chanakya does the same for a postgraduate audience: admissions open for the year, scholarships available, a phone number and the campus areas, all in the top bar before the hero begins. Read the full Chanakya case study.
How does the admissions calendar shape a school website?
A school website should follow the admissions calendar, not a launch date. Parents begin shortlisting months before admissions open, then visit, apply, attend interactions and pay deposits in a fairly short window. The site needs the right information live before each stage begins, which means planning updates across the year rather than redesigning once.
An admissions year, from the parent's side
- Months ahead: Shortlisting from search, referrals and WhatsApp groups
- Admissions open: Campus visits, enquiries, fee questions
- Application window: Forms, interactions or assessments
- Results season: Board results drive junior and degree college choices
- Before term: Deposits, uniforms, transport routes
- Term begins: The site shifts to current parents
Dates differ between boards and institutions, so treat the timeline above as a shape rather than a schedule. The useful habit is to write your own calendar and attach a website task to each stage. Before shortlisting: update the admissions year and fees. Before campus visits: publish directions, parking and visiting hours. Before results season: add pages for junior college or degree programmes that answer stream and eligibility questions.
Many Hyderabad institutions, including Santinos, open admissions for an academic year well in advance. A site still showing last year's admissions banner when parents start looking tells them, quietly, that nobody is watching.
Why do location and transport matter so much in Hyderabad?
Because commute decides many school choices. Hyderabad is large, traffic is heavy at school hours, and a parent in Kompally weighs a campus in Gachibowli very differently from one nearby. A site that shows the campus on a map, lists transport routes or pickup areas, and names the neighbourhood plainly saves the parent a phone call.
The same logic applies to search. Parents type "CBSE schools near Kondapur" or "schools in Meerpet" far more often than a school's name. A school that names its neighbourhood clearly on the site and keeps its Google Business Profile accurate, with the right category, hours, photos and admissions phone, has a much better chance of appearing in those local results. We cover the method in local SEO in Hyderabad.
Colleges face a wider radius. AURA's degree-college site names its Banjara Hills location as one of its reasons to choose the college, and Chanakya lists its three campus areas up front. Students travel further for college, but they still want to know where they are going.
How should a school show its people and its campus?
Show real leaders and real places. Parents want to know who runs the school and what the classrooms look like. Named leadership with qualifications, a principal's message in the principal's own voice, and photographs taken on campus do more for trust than any description of excellence.
The Santinos site gives its leadership their own cards, each with a role and qualifications, beside a message from the principal. Chanakya labels stock photographs as stock until the school supplies its own. Both choices come from the same rule we apply to every institution: evidence, not adjectives. If a claim cannot be shown, it waits.
Photography is often the slowest part of an admissions site because it depends on the school calendar. Plan a shoot on a normal teaching day, with consent from parents where children are identifiable, and replace placeholders before the admissions season starts.
Should a Telangana school website be in Telugu as well as English?
For most private English-medium schools, English is the main language of the site, because it matches the medium of instruction and the parents doing the research. A short Telugu summary of admissions, fees and contact details can still help, especially where grandparents or extended family share in the decision.
The rule is the same as for every page: decide the job first. If the job is helping a Telugu-speaking family understand admissions, a single well-written Telugu page covering the essentials will do more than machine-translating the whole site. Keep it accurate, keep it current, and link to it clearly from the admissions page. Schools teaching in Telugu medium, or serving families across districts beyond Hyderabad, may find the balance tips the other way. Write for the people who actually decide, and check with your admissions team which questions arrive in which language.
How should enquiries be handled during admissions season?
Answer fast and in the channel the parent chose. Many Telangana parents prefer to ask a quick question on WhatsApp or by phone before filling in a form, so show both with office hours. Route form enquiries to a named person, reply the same day, and log every enquiry so none is lost in a busy week.
AURA's full site keeps call and WhatsApp buttons fixed on screen, and its campaign page asks for one action only, a counselling session. Read the AURA case study for why those two pages were built separately. For handling volume without losing the human tone, see WhatsApp AI reception.
Enquiry forms collect personal data, often about children. Ask only for what admissions needs, explain why, and take legal advice on consent under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
What to do next
Open your website on a phone and time how long it takes to find the board, the admissions year, the fees, the location and a phone number. Anything longer than a few seconds is a fix.
When you are ready, see how we build websites and platforms and search and AI visibility for institutions across Hyderabad and Telangana, or book a call.
What to take away
- Parents shortlist on facts: board, affiliation number, fees, location and leadership.
- Put the admissions year, phone, office hours and one enquiry action in the first screen.
- Plan the site around the admissions calendar, not a one-off launch.
- Real photographs and named leaders do more for trust than any adjective.
- Children's data needs care under India's DPDP Act; take legal advice on consent.
